We have started looking in to the crossfit and found it to be 5x more expensive than most large gym memberships. How is it that there is basically no equipment involved and be so expensive?

X-fit St. Paul - $150.00 month unlimited.
10 class $200.00
very limited times

X2 WOW!!

Anytime Fitness $30.00-$50.00 month.

More expensive than a globo gym membership, but a fraction of the price of personal training, yet you are basically getting personal training as many times a week as you want. There is quite a bit of equipment, but rather than using cardio machines, you run or row, rather than using weight machines, you use free weights. There are barbells, kettlebells, plyo boxes, pull up bars, bumper weights, jump ropes, climbing ropes, olympic rings. Tons of stuff you'll never find at a globo gym. But the thing that is really cool about crossfit is the coaching anf the community. There is never a danger of having a workout planned out, walking in and losing your motivation and ending up just walking on a treadmill or doing eliptical for 20 minutes. You will work hard every single time you are in the gym and you will get results. You could just follow the workout sites on your own at a regular gym, but even if you do the cf workouts 5 times a week, you probably won't work as hard as you will surrounded by people encouraging you and also competing with you. You really have to experience it to understand.

I had to admit, I had a hard time with the cost at first too, but as Tania says, you pretty much get personal training and the community. I had been a member of a globo gym in the past, and *never* got the same results as I have with CF. I sure never pushed myself nearly as hard as the coaches, and it was easy to skip going, cuz who knew or cared? Now that I've gotten benefits, the cost doesn't seem outrageous.

Can't speak for every gym, but the coaches at the CF I go to have been good about working around my knee issues, so it's not totally cookie-cutter.

I must also say, the gym I go to does give a family discount, so though Jeff started, it isn't twice as much. Maybe CF SP has something like that.

Good stuff! Hope this works out for you and Shelley. It can be a little intimidating at first, but it gets better.

Wow, that's great! Seriously, just go in with a positive attitude and be open to new things. If your coaches are like ours, you will do great!! =-!!!

Well we made it throught the initial workout and nearly tossed some cookies. We were both extremely sore for a couple of days and now its manageable to some degree and that was just one round. Unfortunately we've decided to try more abuse atleast a couple of months of it. We start ramp up Monday. Just hope the sorness subsides in the near future. Shelley pointed out that when we were doing the exercise the trainer sounded like we do with Grady incouraging us all the way. I guess I will have to start a thread in the exercise area once my fingers can handle it.

The soreness will get better...I have never been as sore as I was after the first workout. Can't wait to hear more!
